Aims and scope

With the advent of high performance LEDs and the emergence of OLEDs for lighting, there is rapid evolution of new lighting systems that are designed to deliver improved illumination as well as new lighting features and services based on the electronically controllable properties of Solid State Lighting (SSL). Journal of Solid State Lighting encompasses all aspects of Solid State Lighting technology.

The Journal of Solid State Lighting encourages the submission of papers in areas including but not limited to the following;

LED Materials and Devices

  • LED materials, device design and fabrication
  • Optical and thermal management at the chip and package level
  • Emitter efficiency improvements
  • LED chip and package reliability

OLED Materials and Devices

  • OLED materials, device design and fabrication
  • Emitter efficiency and lifetime improvements
  • Fixture design
  • Optical design at the packaging level

Drivers and Control Systems

  • Sensors for advanced lighting systems (light, motion, ultrasonic, other)
  • Electrical design and operation of SSL driver systems
  • Electrical and circuit methods for integrating sensors and drivers
  • Integration of new functions at the circuit level
  • Control subsystems design

Systems Level Integration

  • Fixture design (integration of electronics, thermal management and optics at the bulb or luminaire level)
  • Methods for integrating with building and grid systems

Human Factors and SSL Applications

  • Lighting and Human Factors research
  • New lighting features and services (localization, GPS, VLC, video integration)
  • Novel applications of SSL
